The Chicago Bears have started the 2021 NFL season with a 1-2 record, leaving them in a tie for second place in the NFC North. While that isn't the worst start to a campaign, Chicago is averaging just 13.3 points per game — the second-worst average in the league.

Now, there are rumors that the Bears could be shaking up their offensive play calling during Week 4's matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Chicago Bears Rumors

Bears insider Brad Briggs speculated in his latest Chicago Tribune column that offensive coordinator Bill Lazor could handle the play-calling on Sunday. That isn't a guarantee since head coach Matt Nagy hasn't confirmed anything, but Briggs has been a reliable source in the past.

The Bears tried this change last season and it paid off. Chicago averaged 19.8 points per game with Nagy calling the offensive players up until Week 9 of the 2020 NFL season. After that, the Bears averaged 27.7 with Lazor at the helm.

With numbers like that, it's a mystery why Nagy went back to calling plays this year. Fortunately, only three weeks have passed and it isn't too late to turn things around.

All the remains to be seen is who will start under center for the Bears and their potential new-look offense this week when they take on the Lions. Both Justin Fields and Andy Dalton are dealing with injuries and Nagy has yet to name a starter.

The Bears are 3-point favorites against the Lions with -110 odds to cover the spread, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
