It was a challenging year for the Cleveland Browns and quarterback Baker Mayfield. The fourth-year pro struggled with several injuries all year that affected his play, and his numbers suffered a big drop-off from his 2020 campaign as a result.
Mayfield heard plenty of criticism during the season, so he's taking a proactive approach to block the outside noise this offseason.
Mayfield announced on Instagram that he is taking a break from "all" social media for the "foreseeable future." The QB said it's what he thinks is best for himself, as well as his family, to "get right."
There's no denying there's plenty of burden on the young QB's shoulders. The debate on if Mayfield is truly a franchise quarterback seemingly started when he was drafted and hasn't let up yet. That conversation appeared to take a turn when the former No. 1 pick led the Browns to a playoff win last year, but his struggles this season have reignited doubts.
It's good to hear that Mayfield is eliminating distractions to focus on himself. The signal-caller is recovering from recent shoulder surgery, so that's all the more reason to be locked in rather wasting time on social media.
How Cleveland handles a potential long-term extension with Mayfield will be a hot topic around the league all offseason long.
