The Oakland Athletics opened the 2022 MLB season with a pair of losses, allowing 13 runs in that span. Although they secured a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, it was clear that the A's could use some extra pitching help.
Fortunately, the Athletics found a solution on Monday by claiming 6-foot-8 right-handed pitcher Gabe Klobosits from the Washington Nationals. Oakland then designated outfielder Luis Barrera for assignment in a corresponding move to free up space for its new giant pitcher.

Klobosits spent most of the 2021 baseball season in the minors, making a total of 31 combined Double-A and Triple-A relief appearances. He finished the season with a 3-3 record, pitching to a 1.64 ERA, 1.096 WHIP 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
Unfortunately, Klobosits dominance didn't extend to his MLB appearances. The former 2017 second-round pick finished with a 5.56 ERA in only 11.1 IP over 11 appearances, giving up seven earned runs and five walks over that stretch.
The good news is that Klobosits' skillset suggests that he's capable of more at the MLB level. He has a solid mid-90s fastball in his arsenal, however, he must improve his slider and splitter if he hopes to fool Major League hitters.
It'll be interesting to see if Klobosits debuts with his new team when the Athletics visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday evening. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing the Rays as the 1.5-point home favorites with -108 odds to cover the spread, whereas the A's are -111 to cover.
