Astros Get Bad News With Lance McCullers Jr. Injury Update

Everything seems to be going right for the Houston Astros in 2021, other than a series of injuries to its starting pitching staff. This team is 26-22, sits in second in the AL West by just 1.0 games, and owns one of the fiercest lineups in baseball.

But, it all can't all be good news. Houston has already seen two members of its starting rotation find themselves on the injured list.

Now, that number will hit three as Lance McCullers Jr. is the latest member of the pitching staff to hit the shelf with a bad injury update.

His placement on the injured list is retroactive to Sunday and manager Dusty Baker claims this update is completely out of precautionary measures. Still, McCullers landed on the 10-day IL with right shoulder soreness, which is always a worrisome sign for pitchers.

Time will tell how serious or not serious this injury is, however, the Astros will miss his spot in the rotation if McCullers skips any starts. McCullers is pitching to a 3-1 record and 2.96 ERA in 9 starts and 51.2 innings pitched this season. He's been the best member of the staff so far, and the Astros are hopeful for a speedy return.
