Phase 1 of the 2022 MLB All-Star Game's voting is well underway. Although there's plenty of time before the American League and National League starters are officially announced, that hasn't stopped Houston Astros fans from loving the early results.
2022 MLB All-Star Game Voting
The Houston Astros are running away with the AL West division, and it's been thanks to a handful of key contributions from the team's stars. What makes the start even sweeter is the likely presence of these stars at July's 2022 MLB All-Star Game.
Both Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez are projected to be named AL starters if the vote count holds. Altuve leads all AL second basemen with 710,000 votes and holds a comfortable 200,000 vote lead on Santiago Espinal of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Alvarez is already nearing the one million vote mark, and leads Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels by nearly 500,000 votes in the DH race. It makes sense given his ability to crush every baseball in sight this year. Alvarez is slashing an impeccable .311/.403/.623 with 18 home runs and 47 RBIs.
Several other Astros are near the top two (or top six for outfield) in their position's voting results. Alex Bregman ranks fifth over at third base, while both Michael Brantley and Kyle Tucker rank ninth and 10th, respectively, in the outfield.
Astros fans have plenty of time to keep casting votes. The 2022 MLB All-Star Game's Phase 1 voting will continue until Thursday, June 30 at 2 p.m. ET.
