The Kansas City Chiefs are busy preparing for another AFC Championship Game and potential Super Bowl appearance. That hasn't stopped outsiders from speculating on the team's offseason plans, though.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently spoke to anonymous personnel from franchises around the league about what could happen in 2023. Somewhat shockingly, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's future came up as a legitimate topic.
Fowler said people are wondering if Reid "will walk away at some point in the short term." One AFC scout echoed these sentiments, adding they believe Reid may decide to ride off into the sunset at the height of his powers.
"I just think at some point he could make the life decision to walk away from the grind," an AFC scout said. "I could at least see it."- From ESPN's Jeremy Fowler
It'd certainly be a surprise to see Reid walk away considering the boatload of success he's had in Kansas City. With Patrick Mahomes only turning 27 this past September and under contract through 2031, Reid is in a great position to keep racking up wins for as long as he wants.
However, the almost 65-year-old has also accomplished just about all there is for a head coach and could be one of a select few to win two rings with separate teams if the Chiefs claim the Lombardi trophy soon. It's certainly possible he'd be ready to call it a career should KC win it all in February.
For now, he'll look to add another conference championship title and get back to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs are slim 1-point underdogs against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
