Anthony Rendon's first full season with the Los Angeles Angels hasn't been quite what fans were hoping for. Los Angeles took a huge investment on the slugging third baseman, signing him to a seven-year, $245 million before 2020.

We all know the 2020 was shortened across the league, but Rendon has seen a multitude of injury issues during the 2021 MLB season. In fact, the 31-year-old third baseman is heading to the injured list for the third time already this season, exactly at the halfway point.

Anthony Rendon Injury Update

Rendon left Sunday's game early after just six innings and immediately Angels fans feared the worst after learning it was a potential hamstring issue. Although manager Joe Maddon remained relatively positive about the severity, it still resulted in another IL trip for Rendon.

Rendon has already missed separate portions of both April and May with previous IL stints thanks to injuries such as a groin strain, knee contusion and triceps tweak.

All this time missed is reflected in Rendon's stat line. On the year, the third baseman is slashing just .240/.329/.382 with 6 home runs and 34 RBIs, the least productive he's been at the plate in nine years of professional baseball.

The Angels will hope to get their slugger back to full strength in time for the second half of the season. Los Angeles sits in fourth place in the AL West, trailing the Houston Astros by 9.5 games. Right now, the Angels own just +3500 odds to win the division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
