Andy Dalton Weighs in on Possibility of Starting Over Jameis Winston

The New Orleans Saints are prepared to run things back with Jameis Winston after his injury-shortened 2021 season. Though Winston is on the mend, there's no telling how he'll look in his return from ACL surgery, so the team secured QB depth by signing veteran Andy Dalton this week.
Dalton is capable of filling if need be, but he said he's in New Orleans only to support Winston, rather than compete with him.

Dalton said "This is Jameis' thing" when discussing the QB depth chart ahead of the 2022 season, making it clear he only expects to serve in a backup role. Winston's return from injury could open the door for some competition, but it appears the Saints are committed to him being the no-doubt starter heading into Week 1.
It's great to hear Dalton accepts his role as the No. 2 with open arms. The three-time Pro Bowler and 11-year veteran has plenty of experience he can share to help Winston continue his NFL growth.
With four career NFL Playoffs starts under his belt as well, Dalton could be a valuable mentor as Winston -- who has no career playoff starts -- looks to lead the Saints to contention.
New Orleans owns +4000 odds (T-No. 19) to win Super Bowl LVII, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
