The return to padded practices around the league has been met with plenty of injuries, as you would expect. While there have been some big-name players lost to injuries already, the injury to New Orleans Saints guard Andrus Peat cannot be overstated.
Peat has unfortunately suffered a broken thumb, and he appears to be in danger of missing Week 1. The official timetable is yet to be determined, since opting for surgery would likely extend his absence.
Peat is a big part of the Saints' offensive line, as evidenced by his back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances and the five-year, $57.5 million contract he inked with the team this offseason.
Any potential absence would be tough, but New Orleans has made due without Peat before, as he's missed a combined nine games over the past two seasons.
The Saints will wait and see if Peat will require surgery on his thumb. If he does, the team might want to look into bringing in a free agent before the season kicks off.
