The season-ending injury to Roberto Perez has sent the Pittsburgh Pirates' catching situation into a state of flux. Pittsburgh called up Michael Perez and claimed Tyler Heineman off of waivers in response to the injury, leaving Andrew Knapp as the odd man out.
Knapp was designated for assignment earlier this week, and he's now made a decision on his future after clearing waivers.

Knapp has elected free agency, rejecting an outright assignment and allowing him to speak freely with the other 29 clubs in hopes of finding a new home.
The 30-year-old didn't have the greatest showing over 11 games with the Pirates this season. He slashed just .129/.229/.161 in 31 at-bats, along with 2 RBIs.
Backup catchers aren't expected to have electric bats, though, and Knapp's switch-hitting abilities could be valuable to other teams in need of depth. After five years as the Philadelphia Phillies' primary backup, his experience could help him secure a new job as he hits the open market.
