With a 66-46 record, the Houston Astros currently sit first in the AL West division. However, their lead over the second-place Oakland Athletics is down to two games as the Astros have gone 4-6 in their past 10 contests.

It's been difficult for Houston to create a bigger lead as the team has been without third baseman Alex Bregman since June 16 due to a hamstring issue.

Houston received a concerning update regarding Bregman's status as Astros manager Dusty Baker told SportsTalk790 that the third baseman won't be activated for the club's Tuesday night tilt against the Colorado Rockies. Baker said that Bregman isn't ready to be activated and that he needs the next few days off to get some treatment for his hamstring.

Alex Bregman Injury Update

Once Bregman receives his treatment, there are still a few more steps left before he returns to the Astros lineup. Baker said that he would like the two-time MLB All-Star to get a few more minor league rehab games in before bringing him back to the majors. The Astros manager added that it would be great if Bregman is back in time for the club's next home game, which is on Friday, August 20 against the Seattle Mariners.

Bregman's injury issues have held him to playing in just 59 games this season. During that span, he's looked impressive, recording 7 home runs and 34 RBI while slashing .275/.359/.428. With Houston losing four of its last five games, it's clear that the team could use his bat back in the lineup.

Even with their recent struggles, the Astros still have the second-best shot at winning the 2021 World Series. Their +480 odds to go on a championship run ranks second on FanDuel Sportsbook, however, getting a healthy Bregman back in the batting order would certainly help solidify or even boost those odds.
