The race for the AL Cy Young has begun to heat up along with the weather around MLB. While Justin Verlander is the current favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, there are a handful of pitchers within striking distance to take home the award by season's end.

Verlander's impressive 8-2 record, 2.38 ERA and 0.74 WHIP through 12 starts align with the right-hander's +250 odds to win the Cy Young. He began the season with +1000 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

His Houston teammate, Gerrit Cole, has the second-best odds (+400), but his numbers are a far cry from Verlander's early-season dominance. Cole is 5-5 with a 4.02 ERA, but he does lead the AL in strikeouts with 112.

Boston ace Chris Sale had a putrid start to the season, and despite righting the ship a bit in terms of ERA, still sits with a 1-6 record and a 4.19 ERA to pair with 88 strikeouts. His current +450 odds are likely due to Sale starting the season as the favorite at +350.

A place where you could potentially find some value right now is with a guy like Domingo German at +1300 as the Yankees' starter currently leads the AL in wins (9). German's 3.43 ERA isn't as low as Verlander's, but it's better than Sale and Cole, who both sit ahead of him in the odds. And don't forget about the Twins' Jose Berrios (7-2, 3.20 ERA) and the Indians' Trevor Bauer (4-4, 3.99 ERA), both sitting at +700.

Regardless of where we sit now, it's pretty clear that there's lots of room for movement as the season plays out. It's definitely something to keep an eye on as we hit the dog days of summer.
