Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out for Week 9 after testing positive for COVID-19. That means backup Jordan Love will now make his first career NFL start against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Aaron Rodgers Update
The update on Rodgers has sent Love's fantasy outlook skyrocketing.
Jordan Love Fantasy Outlook
Love got his first taste of NFL action earlier this year, so he's a huge question mark. But the potential is there for the young QB to make an immediate impact.
Rodgers currently ranks as QB9 after amassing 1,894 yards and 17 TDs (with just 3 INTs) this season. He's hit at least 19.0 fantasy points in six of eight games, including four outings of 20-plus. Love should have a chance to approach those numbers surrounded by the likes of Aaron Jones and Davante Adams.
That's not even to mention his delicious matchup against the Chiefs. Kansas City has given up the second-most fantasy points to QBs this season, and they rank third-worst in Football Outsiders' pass defense DVOA metric.
Love presents an unknown, given his lack of playing time and how much Green Bay will actually feature the QB. The Packers rank just outside the bottom 10 in pass attempts per game already, and the run game may be leaned upon to protect the young signal-caller.
Still, Love's matchup and the talent around him is appealing. His ability to make plays on the ground (403 rushing yards and 9 TDs at Utah State) gives him another path to fantasy production as well.
There's risk involved for those betting on Love as a streaming option in Week 9, but there could be some reward, too.
