All eyes are on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers right now. There's no telling how this stalemate will end (or even when). It's already impacting the Packers' Super Bowl odds, and it may affect their 2021 schedule.
NFL insider Peter King believes the Rodgers drama could cost the team primetime games in 2021.
Packers Primetime Games 2021
King highlights that FOX and NBC will likely tread carefully when lining up the Packers on their primetime schedule. The NFL insider believes both stations will prepare backup options and flex the Packers out of their marquee time slots if a Rodgers trade leads to struggles in 2021.
"FOX will protect the Packers in some doubleheader windows with some strong early-window game so that if, in November, if the Packers are 1-8 with Jordan Love spitting the bit at quarterback, they’ll have a decent backup game to switch to the doubleheader window the week before the game."- Peter King
King's assumptions make sense. Rodgers is the reigning MVP and Green Bay is a Super Bowl contender with him on the roster. There's no telling how Jordan Love will look if he does take over as starter, and there'll likely be growing pains that could tank the Packers' record in 2021. They'd be less than ideal to feature in late-season primetime games over playoff hopefuls if they do struggle post-Rodgers.
The handling of the Packers' TV schedule speaks to the pure unpredictability of the the Rodgers situation. There's no indication on how it'll be resolved, though everyone around the league is preparing for any number of possibilities.
