As we prepare for the start of the 2019 MLB season, many teams have spent the past couple weeks doing some contract maintenance on their rosters with players receiving extensions left and right.

For a couple of days, it seemed like every player in the league was getting a contract extension, from future Hall of Famers like Mike Trout to players who've never seen an MLB at-bat like Eloy Jimenez. But one New York Mets Cy Young Award winner hasn't gotten an extension yet, and his fellow star teammate, Noah Syndergaard, isn't very happy about it.

Syndergaard's comments came out just a day after it was reported that deGrom was now uncertain and "less optimistic" about reaching a potential deal with the Mets. deGrom is only under contract for the 2019 season, and if an extension can't be reached, he will become a free agent at the end of this season.

The Mets have already traded former star pitcher Matt Harvey to the Cincinnati Reds as Mets fans have watched their cupboard of young pitching talent slowly disappear. And for whatever reason, New York still has yet to lock down its current ace in deGrom.

This was the same type of indecision that happened with the Baltimore Orioles and Manny Machado before last season, and he's no longer playing in Baltimore. Also, DeGrom not getting an extension wasn't the only thing Syndergaard was displeased with either.

The Mets aren't paying their best player, and they're already starting to rub another of one their star pitchers the wrong way before the season has even started. That's not exactly an auspicious start to the year for a New York team that is in win-now mode
