However, it takes more than one good player to become a successful baseball team and it looks like the Padres might have a budding star in centerfield.
Hard to find a better post-hype breakout target than Manuel Margot. Exit velo +4.1 mph in 2018 (7th biggest jump in MLB), impactful underlying power skills in three of last four months, consistently upper-tier wheels. He's got 15 HR, 40 SB upside.

Margot was a prospect from the Dominican who burst onto the scene in 2017 when he finished sixth in Rookie-of-the-Year voting. His 2018 was a bit of sophomore slump, but he still hit .245 with 8 home runs, 51 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
One of the reasons you probably don't know Margot is because he plays in San Diego. Before the Padres signed Machado, very few people spent time thinking about them. But that just makes Margot all the more appealing as a sleeper. There's a pretty good chance you can get him at any point late in your draft.

Margot fits the profile for a great 2018 sleeper. Even if he only has a small breakout in 2019, his value would still be through the roof.
