The Red Sox, Astros and Yankees are all coming off of 100-plus win seasons in 2018 and have already established themselves as the early favorites to win the American League this year.

The oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook are giving the Yankees (+280) a slight edge over the Red Sox (+300) and the Astros (+310) to represent the American League in the World Series this year

There is a significant gap between this top tier of American League teams and the rest of the field, as the Cleveland Indians (+650) have the fourth-best odds, before the odds fall off a cliff to the Oakland Athletics (+1700)

All three of the AL powerhouses missed out on the Manny Machado sweepstakes, but the Yankees added depth to their infield with the acquisition of five-time All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. They also added former Seattle Mariners pitcher James Paxton.

Boston, the defending World Series champions, had a relatively quiet offseason. Although the Red Sox aren't expected to retain closer Craig Kimbrel, who recorded 42 saves on a 2.72 ERA last season, they were able to negotiate deals to keep postseason standouts Steve Pearce and Nathan Eovaldi in Boston.

Houston's biggest addition was left-handed hitting outfielder Michael Brantley, who adds balance to Houston's predominantly right-handed core of Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa and George Springer.

Brantley was selected to his third All-Star game in 2018, posting a .309 batting average and .364 on-base percentage, while hitting 17 home runs and driving in 76 runs.

With spring training already started, the number of changes these three teams make before opening day should be minimal - the one exception being if one can make a huge splash and land Bryce Harper, who is somehow still a free-agent. The American League is expected to be a three-horse race this season and it will be an exciting one to follow along with.
