The Purdue Boilermakers might just want to go ahead and change their Boilermaker Special locomotive mascot to a Boilermaker Hype Train.


Not even a week removed from one of their biggest wins in program history over a then-No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes team by 29 points at home in West Lafayette, Purdue now has a better 2019 recruiting-class ranking than USC, according to 247Sports.com. 

And the hype train clearly isn't stopping after the USC Trojans station either. That's quite an impressive list of perpetually competitive programs the Boilermakers have risen above in the recruiting race lately. 


Purdue's 2019 class is currently ranked fifth in the Big Ten and features 23 commits, including three 4-star recruits. The Boilermakers have a tough match on the road against conference foe Michigan State in Week 9 though. 


Considering Purdue heads into East Lansing as +1.5-point underdogs, Saturday's result should be a solid measure of the 2018 team's legitimacy.
