Sunday night's showdown between the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs could be a preview of this season's AFC Championship Game, and it seems the oddsmakers are expecting quite the shootout between the two Super Bowl contenders.


With an over/under sitting at 59 as of Tuesday morning on FanDuel Sportsbook, that's the highest O/U of the season, and according to Bet Labs software, which analyzes historical betting data from Pinnacle, only one game has closed with an O/U above 58.5 since the start of the 2003 season.

The only game with a higher over/under took place during the 2004 season and also involved the Chiefs. In a game with a whopping 60 point over/under, the Chiefs went on to beat the Oakland Raiders, 31-30, hitting the over by a single point.


Anything historically high like that would be a huge red flag for the average bettor, but apparently, 90-plus percent of early bettors are seeing green in this case.

You have to admire that kind of confidence, but the over definitely seems like the safer side of the bet at first glance. Offenses are scoring at an unprecedented rate this season and both teams don't have strong defenses, to put it lightly.
