Chicago Bulls sophomore power forward Lauri Markkanen was hoping to come out this year and immediately build upon the success from his rookie season, where he averaged 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds.

But after injuring his elbow in Thursday's practice, Markkanen will miss the next 6-8 weeks with what is being classified as a high-grade lateral elbow sprain.

This is certainly a blow to a young Bulls team that was eager to get their new front court of Markkanen and rookie Wendall Carter going right away. While Chicago doesn't project to be a team that would make a playoff run, even in the Eastern Conference, you always want your young players to get as many reps together as possible.

For now, the Bulls win total remains the same on  FanDuel Sportsbook at an Over/Under of 29.5, but bettors could change that if they think the Markkanen injury will have a big effect on wins and losses this season.
