Despite boasting the second-best odds to win the College Football Playoff and the No. 3 overall spot in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, the Clemson Tigers offense has quietly been battling out a starting quarterback competition between senior Kelly Bryant and freshman Trevor Lawrence through four weeks.

But that battle came to a decisive end Monday morning, with the younger star Lawrence being named the starter moving forward against Syracuse for Week 5.

Lawrence threw for 176 yards and four touchdowns against Georgia Tech, going 13-for-18 on passing attempts. Nearly finishing a game with the same number of touchdown passes as incompletions is always a great case for winning the starting position.

Interestingly enough, the latest Week 5 odds to win the Heisman Trophy odds have Lawrence at +5000 and significantly behind Kelly Bryant's +2200 current odds. Even though Bryant dropped from +1100 to +2200 from Week 4 to 5, it's hard to imagine the backup continuing to have better odds than the new freshman starter in Clemson.

It should be quite a ride to watch and see how Clemson's odds to win the College Football Playoff fluctuate over the coming week through Saturday as well.
