Running back platoon are often a necessity in the NFL where finding a real workhorse running back is getting increasingly harder and harder. But for fantasy owners, a platoon is just about the worst thing that can happen even if you own both of the running backs.

In Denver, the Broncos appear to have two talented young backs to share the carries with Phillip Lindsay leading the charge. Coming into the season, Royce Freeman was pegged by many as a massive sleeper candidate, but Lindsay has looked even more impressive through two games. So who should you start between the two Denver rookies?

Let's first look at their production through two games:

Phillip Lindsay: 29 carries, 178 yards, 3 receptions, 35 yards, 1 touchdown

Royce Freeman: 23 carries, 99 yards, 1 touchdown

The only thing that keeps Freeman in contention here is the fact that he has a rushing touchdown and it appears as if he'll be getting the goal line carries. Aside from that, everything points strongly to Lindsay here.

If we split the two weeks apart, both running backs got 15 carries in Denver's Week 1 matchup with Seattle. In Week 2 against Oakland, Lindsay got 14 carries while Freeman only got eight. That's not a trend yet, but with how good Lindsay looked it's safe to start thinking it may be.

Right now Lindsay is just doing more with his carries and is more active in the passing game. By season's end he might even be a Top 5 running back option.
