The New York Mets have had a season to forget. After a strong start, the Mets slumped their way through May and June, taking themselves out of the playoff conversation just before the All-Star Break. However, the Mets actually began to pick things up as soon as the calendar turned.

The Mets are 32-29 since July 2, which is the best record by an NL East team during that time span.

While the Mets' run of success is commendable and definitely worth highlighting, bettors should still be hesitant about wagering on this team.

The fact that they own the best record in the division since July should be taken with a grain of salt. If anything, their record since early July is more of a testament to how bad the NL East has been this year, rather than how good the Mets have been during that time span.

While enticing, the Mets remain no better than a 50/50 proposition when it comes to placing a bet of them over the remainder of the season.
