Francisco Mejia, considered by many as the top catcher in the minor leagues, will join the Padres in time for Tuesday night’s game against the Diamondbacks. Fans will have to wait a bit on his debut, though, as manager Andy Green said that Mejia isn’t scheduled to make his first start until Thursday in Cincinnati.

Mejia was acquired from the Indians in the July 19 trade that sent relievers Brad Hand and Adam Cimber to the Indians. In 31 games at Triple-A El Paso, Mejia had a .328 batting average and capped off his brief stay there with three home runs over his last five games.

From a fantasy perspective, it’s still unclear if he will be a must-add to your roster. After all, Mejia will be splitting time with current starting catcher Austin Hedges, who has drawn praise from Green and the pitchers on the Padres' pitching staff. Between his two stops in Columbus and El Paso, Mejia hit .293 with 14 homers and 68 RBI in 110 games.

All in all, it will be tough to rely on a guy that won't be penciled into the lineup every day. However, a switch-hitting catcher with elite power is always an intriguing piece to add, especially if you have the room on your roster in dynasty formats.
