With Chip Kelly and his bag of tricks coming to La-La Land, the UCLA Bruins might not be a bad bet to win the Pac-12 Conference title at 32/1 odds.

Bettors hope Kelly’s first year is as successful as his debut seasons with the Oregon Ducks (10-3) and Philadelphia Eagles (10-6), and not like his lone campaign with the San Francisco 49ers (2-14).

It won’t be easy for the Bruins, who lost their opener and are coming off a disastrous 6-7 season that saw Jim Mora get the ax in mid-November and Josh Rosen move on to the NFL. The team won their first game under interim coach Jedd Fisch against Cal before losing to Kansas State in the Cactus Bowl.

UCLA’s schedule is much tougher this season than it was in 2017. Their 2018 schedule features matchups against five ranked-teams (three at home, two on road) in comparison to the two they faced last season.

Wilton Speight comes over as a transfer from Michigan, and he’ll be under center for a UCLA team that already had an explosive offense before he got there. In fact, the Bruins were able to score 30+ points in eight of their 13 games last season. They’ll likely increase that number with Kelly’s tricks and gizmos that make up his playbook arsenal.

All in all, it won’t be an easy task, but with all the competition in the Pac-12 Conference, things can shift at any time.
