The San Francisco 49ers persevered through another season plagued by injuries, all the way to the NFC's No. 6 seed in the NFL Playoffs. Now as the team prepares for a crucial Wild Card matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, the 49ers received a grouping of positive injury news around three key starters.

Jimmy Garoppolo Injury Update

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has spent the better part of a month playing through a chipped bone in his throwing hand, an injury that's been documented as quite painful. Regardless of the injury, Jimmy G played through the pain in Week 18 and is expected to suit up in the Wild Card round.

Garoppolo logged a "full participant" practice on Thursday, which is an upgrade over his limited status in Wednesday's practice. All signs are pointing towards the 49ers' gunslinger being able to effectively manage his pain in this crucial matchup.

Elijah Mitchell Injury Update

Lead running back Elijah Mitchell has been nursing a knee injury that's held him to just two games played in the 49ers' last five. He did suit up for a combined 44 touches in Weeks 17 and 18, but played close to his season-low in 58% and 53% of the snaps, respectively.

Mitchell did not practice on Wednesday, but was upgraded to a limited participant on Thursday. His 4.7 yards per attempt and 1,100 yards from scrimmage is an important piece to this 49ers offense and it's a relief to see his injury status trending in the right direction.

Trent Williams Injury Update

Nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams was also upgraded to a limited participant in Thursday's practice. This same elbow injury held him out of Week 18 and the 49ers will be thrilled to get their 11-year veteran back on the field for playoff football.

Sunday's 49ers vs Cowboys matchup is expected to be a tight one. As it stands, the 49ers are 3-point road underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
