In the Week 2 Sunday Night Football game, the Seattle Seahawks will host the new-look New England Patriots. The odds are fairly close for this game, so we should see a competitive matchup to close out the Sunday slate.
Because of this, nothing would be too terribly shocking. However, the game could still bring some surprises.
With that in mind, here are three bold predictions for the Seahawks against the Patriots.
3. Seahawks Run for Less Than 100 Yards
The Seahawks were a run-heavy team last season, running the ball 48.2 percent of the time. However, they did not do much on the ground in their Week 1 game. They ran for just 84 yards, with Russell Wilson being the leading rusher. The Patriots played solid run defense of their own in Week 1, limiting the Miami Dolphins to 87 rushing yards, averaging 3.2 yards per carry. Wilson has also torched New England's secondary throughout his career, averaging more yards per attempt against the Patriots (10.02) than he has against any other team in the league. Expect Seattle to let him sling it again in Week 2.
2. Seahawks Sack Cam Newton Four Times
The Seahawks pass rush was involved in their Week 1 win, totaling 2 sacks and 8 quarterback hits. With them being odds favorites to win, they are more likely to be up in this game, allowing their pass-rushing unit to pin their ears back and attack Cam Newton. He was sacked twice by the Miami Dolphins in Week 1.
1. Seahawks Force Multiple Turnovers
In Week 1, Seattle intercepted one pass and recovered a fumble. The Seahawks were one of the best at forcing turnovers last season, averaging 2.0 takeaways per game, which was the third-best total in the NFL. New England had just one turnover last week, but Newton has shown he is prone to giving the ball away, totaling three turnovers in two games last season.
