Jameis Winston was one of the most interesting names on the NFL free agent market last offseason, and it surprised many when he opted to sign with the New Orleans Saints on a one-year deal that made him a backup (and eventually third-string) quarterback.

Even with Drew Brees likely retiring, the Saints appear committed to Taysom Hill, meaning re-signing in New Orleans would continue to leave Winston as a backup. That may not be a role that interests the former No. 1 overall pick.

With that in mind, here are the most likely free agent destinations for Jameis Winston in the 2021 NFL offseason.

Jameis Winston Free Agent Landing Spots

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

Winston and the Pittsburgh Steelers were connected plenty in free agency last year, and the same factors that made it an interesting fit hold true this year as well. Ben Roethlisberger is a threat to retire every offseason at this point, and he's also a threat to have his play decline if he does keep playing. Despite their playoff loss to the Cleveland Browns, this is still a team that has more than enough talent to be a legitimate contender in the AFC, and that means we can expect them to pursue a veteran QB as Big Ben's successor, rather than trying to rebuild with a rookie at the helm.

2. New Orleans Saints

NFL teams say a lot of things, and plenty can change through an offseason. Even if the Saints legitimately plan to give Taysom Hill the QB1 job, there's no guarantee he keeps it. You can only have so much confidence in a year-old quarterback with just 136 NFL pass attempts to his name. If Brees retires, Winston would have a legitimate chance to win the starting job away from Hill.

3. San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers may move Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason, and Kyle Shanahan's offense would need a new quarterback. This team has plenty of talent, being only one year removed from reaching the Super Bowl, and like Pittsburgh that could mean they look for a veteran QB to lead them. Shanahan is one of the league's best offensive minds, and if anyone can find a way to maximize Winston's upside while limiting his interception problems, it may be Shanahan.
