The Buffalo Bills have been slowly building up a tough-minded, talented football team. It looked like this would be the season where they could win the AFC East, but then the New England Patriots went ahead and signed Cam Newton for essentially nothing. Now, the Bills need to keep improving throughout the offseason to compete with their rivals.

With a bunch of talent on this team and few huge stars, trimming the roster down could result in some tough cuts. These are three veterans that could be training camp cuts for the Bills.

1. Tyler Kroft, TE

After signing with the Bills last season, Tyler Kroft has really struggled. He was limited to just 11 games, due to injury. In those games, he caught six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Dawson Knox showcased his potential last season and will be the starter this year. Cutting the veteran Kroft would save money and open up a roster spot that is likely better spent elsewhere.

2. Trent Murphy, DE

Trent Murphy is a solid defensive end for Buffalo, though he under-performed in the regular season. He did come up big in the playoffs, with a two-sack performance against the Houston Texans. Still, he is a backup and cutting him would save roughly $8 million. If they are able to land someone like Jadeveon Clowney, they should absolutely release Murphy.

3. Spencer Long, OG

Spencer Long is heading into his seventh NFL season, but second with the Bills. He appeared in 14 games last season, but didn't make a single start. He is projected to be the backup to Jon Feliciano. While having offensive line depth is important, overpaying for said depth is not. Cutting him would be a saving of over $2 million.
