Would You Rather: Own Damien Williams or Darrel Williams in Fantasy Football

The Kansas City Chiefs were tested in their Week 4 road win over the Detroit Lions, with their offense being slowed for much of the game. Kansas City was without a few of their offensive starters, though, including lead running back Damien Williams, who was out with a knee injury for the second week in a row. In his absence, Darrel Williams once again saw the biggest boost in snaps in the backfield and returned another solid fantasy football score. That gives him two impressive games in a row, and calls into question which Williams in the Kansas City backfield should be owned for the rest of the season.

After coming into the season as the lead running back in a split with LeSean McCoy, Damien Williams hurt his knee in Week 2, causing him to miss the last two games. Andy Reid said he's heading in the right direction, but Williams didn't practice at all ahead of Week 4, so his status is still up in the air for Week 5.
In Damien Williams' absence, Darrel Williams has put up 26.5 standard-scoring fantasy points over the last two weeks, making him RB11 in that span. His two touchdowns against the Lions saved his fantasy day, as he ran for just 13 yards on eight carries. However, he did lead the backfield in snaps, including being on the field for 26 passes compared to McCoy's 20. However, McCoy had success on the ground, and ran the ball three more times than Williams.

While Darrel Williams is filling in nicely in Damien Williams' absence, he can be expected to return to a reserve role when Damien returns from his knee injury. In this first two weeks, Damien Williams played 58.7 percent of the snaps, and this includes the game he left early with the injury. Darrel Williams played just five snaps in those games. While a Week 5 return may be a long shot, the optimism expressed by Reid suggests Damien Williams will not be out much longer, and that means he is still the Williams to own in Kansas City.
