White Sox News: Chicago Gets Good Luis Robert Injury Update
After a hot start to the 2021 MLB season, Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert had his momentum derailed when he suffered a complete hip flexor tear on May 2. The initial recovery timetable projected a return within three to four months, however, there was always that chance that Robert could miss the remainder of the season. Fortunately for the young outfielder and his team, his recovery has gone as good as possible.
The White Sox announced on Tuesday that Robert has been cleared to begin his rehab assignment. He'll start working his way back to the MLB with High-A Winston-Salem beginning on Wednesday. For a team that's been marred with injuries throughout the season, this is good news for Chicago.
Luis Robert Injury Update
While there's no telling when Robert will complete his rehab, his eventual return would make the White Sox look even more dangerous than they already are. Their 57-37 record is the best in the American League and the fact that they've gone 8-2 in their last 10 games shows that they don't plan on slowing down any time soon.
Regardless of when he's back in the lineup, the hope is that Robert can pick up right from where he left off. Before his injury, the 23-year-old outfielder was slashing .316/.359/.463 and had recorded 9 doubles, a home run and 9 RBI through 95 at-bats (25 games).
Even without Robert in their lineup, the White Sox have been seen as World Series contenders throughout the 2021 MLB season. FanDuel Sportsbook is listing them as having +750 to go on a championship run this year, which only puts them behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (+390) and Houston Astros (+450). However, getting back the promising young outfielder would certainly help Chicago in its hunt for its first World Series since 2005.
