Ty Montgomery Fantasy Value With Alvin Kamara & Latavius Murray COVID Status in Saints Week 17 Backfield

The Saints offense has been lead all season long by the dominant play of star running back Alvin Kamara. And while he has avoided missing any games through 16 weeks of the season, earlier this Week Kamara tested positive for COVID-19 and will now be out in Week 17, and potentially longer.

While this completely eliminates his fantasy value for leagues still happening in Week 17, his close contact with the rest of the Saints' RB room will keep Latavius Murray out in Week 17 as well.

Ty Montgomery Fantasy Outlook

To replicate the now vacant running back room in New Orleans in Week 17, the Saints have switched over Ty Montgomery to running back. Montgomery has played both running back and wide receiver before in his career.

In five games this season with the Saints, Montgomery has been virtually non-existent. He only has one rush attempt, and it went for negative yardage. He has two catches that totaled 25 yards.

Montgomery will be vaulted into the every-down role in Week 17, and how he responds will be anyone's guess. He draws a matchup against a young Carolina Panthers team that ranks No. 16 in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game. However, they do give up 4.7 yards per rush, which ranks No. 27 in the NFL. This is a good sign for Montgomery.

Still, if your fantasy season is still going on, Montgomery should only be used in a pinch. Outside of being in the Saints offense, there's no indication Montgomery will have a good game. that being said, there are definitely worse options than a running back in the Saints offense, especially if your options are limited.
