The Cowboys Must Sign Jadeveon Clowney Immediately

Even after inking Amari Cooper to a new contract and franchise tagging Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys are above the NFL average with a little over $26 million in salary cap space.
They've lost one top defender in Byron Jones, and they can't afford to enter the 2020 season with a downgraded defense if they want to improve on their 8-8 performance from 2019. That means they might need to make a splash in free agency, and that splash could be adding Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney said before the offseason started that he wants to play for a contender in 2020, and loaded with talent, the Cowboys can absolutely contend, especially with the added impact Clowney brings on the edge.
Dallas has a premier edge defender on one side in Demarcus Lawrence, but they're losing Robert Quinn, Michael Bennett and Maliek Collins to free agency. That trio accounted for a full 50 percent of Dallas' sacks as well as 48 percent of their quarterback hits in 2019.
Clowney only notched 3.0 sacks last year, but the previous two seasons had seen him notch a combined 18.5 sacks and 42 QB hits, and even when he's not getting to the QB he's bringing value as an elite run defender.
Joe Thomas says on @nflnetwork that he thinks the Dallas #Cowboys will end up signing Jadeveon Clowney. What an addition that would be. #NFL #NFLFreeAgency

Clowney would be an obvious upgrade at a position of need for the Dallas defense, and that makes him worth signing even if it stretches the Cowboys' budget. This is a move they need to make.
