Super Bowl Best Bets and Props: Best Sam Darnold Prop to Target

It's Super Bowl week as the big game takes place this coming Sunday as the New England Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks.

FanDuel Sportsbook's Super Bowl odds are live for Patriots vs. Seahawks, and there are several markets from which to choose. Today, let's focus on the best prop bet for Sam Darnold.

Best Sam Darnold Prop Bet for the Super Bowl

Sam Darnold Under 5.5 Rushing Yards (-105)

While this line is set right at Darnold's average of 5.6 rushing yards per game this season, I think the under is the side to be on.

Darnold has decent scrambling ability when the opportunity arises, he just hasn't shown that part of his game much with Seattle after averaging 12.5 rushing yards per game a season ago with the Minnesota Vikings. Across 19 total games this year -- including the postseason -- Darnold finished with two or fewer rushing yards 11 times. Through two playoff games, he's run for zero and nine yards.

What gives me some comfort with the under is that Darnold doesn't handle tush pushes for the Seahawks. That duty falls to tight end AJ Barner, which is why Barner to rush for at least one yard is one of my favorite Super Bowl prop bets.

Without tush-push in Darnold's corner, any positive rushing yards he gets will likely come from a pass play that turns into a scramble. The lone exception would be a designed run, something Darnold rarely does.

I specified positive there because Darnold can get negative rushing yards via kneel-downs late in the game. That's very much on the table with Seattle favored. Along that same vein, a positive game script for the Seahawks could lead to fewer drop backs and fewer chances to scramble.

In a game I think Seattle wins, I am backing Darnold to go under 5.5 rushing yards.
