It has been an active start to the free agency period around the entire league, but especially in Buffalo, where the Bills have already brought in big-name talents like Stefon Diggs. However, they lost Jordan Phillips to the Arizona Cardinals, and Shaq Lawson joined Miami Dolphins.

That gives Buffalo a pretty obvious hole on the defensive line. If the Bills want to address that need, signing Jadeveon Clowney is likely their best course of action.

Buffalo had an elite scoring defense last season, surrendering the second-fewest points in the league, but the pass-rush wasn't exactly dominant. The Bills were league average with 92 QB hits (No. 17 in the NFL) and their 44 sacks put them at No. 12 in the league. While that sack number is solid, 16 of those 44 sacks have walked out the door with the loss of Lawson and Phillips.

Clowney, who posted the seventh-highest pass rush win rate among all edge rushers, would instantly give this unit a boost. His 3.0 sacks weren't particularly noteworthy, but he's recorded at least 30 pressures in back-to-back seasons now, and he clearly does much more than just what shows up on the box score.

Buffalo currently has an estimated $40 million in cap space, which is the ninth most in the NFL. The Bills should have enough space to make a splash, and signing Clowney could put this defense over the top.
