Without further ado, here are two players to target and two to avoid in Wednesday, Jan. 20, NBA DFS action.
NBA DFS Picks Tonight
Joel Embiid Fantasy
Target Joel Embiid ($9,800), C, Philadelphia 76ers: Joel Embiid is always a matchup nightmare for the Boston Celtics. He's simply too big, too fast and too strong for the Celtics, who have a weak spot at center. That has allowed him to average a whopping 12.8 rebounds per game in his career against Boston, which is tied for his fourth-best such average against any NBA team. With Jayson Tatum out tonight, Embiid should have little trouble looking like the best player on the floor.
Jaylen Brown Fantasy
Target Jaylen Brown ($8,300), SF, Boston Celtics: Embiid's primary competition for that title will likely come from Jaylen Brown. Brown has taken his game to new heights this season, averaging career-best numbers in: points (25.8), assists (3.8), steals (1.6) and blocks per game (0.6). He's doing all that while shooting the lights out, hitting 52.9% of his FGs and 40.8% of his 3-point attempts. A matchup with Philadelphia's elite defense is by no means easy, but Boston has virtually no offensive firepower aside from Brown, as Tatum is out and Kemba Walker is still on a minutes restriction. The Celtics will likely ask a lot of him tonight, and he's been consistently delivering this season.
Victor Oladipo Fantasy
Avoid Victor Oladipo ($7,900), SG, Houston Rockets: Victor Oladipo is coming off a sparkling debut with the Houston Rockets. He put up 32 points, 9 assists and 5 boards while hitting 13-of-23 shots and adding 2 steals. He's starting to look like the player he was from 2017-19. However, it's tough to like his prospects tonight. The Phoenix Suns have been elite defensively, checking in as a top-five scoring defense. Phoenix also plays at the second-slowest pace in the league, which should significantly limit opportunities for Oladipo tonight.
Pascal Siakam Fantasy
Avoid Pascal Siakam ($8,000), SF, Toronto Raptors: Pascal Siakam is mired in a pretty serious slump right now, averaging 14.3 points with 5.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 35.4% from beyond the field and 13.3% from beyond the arc over his last three games. It's tough to see him breaking out of it against a Miami Heat team that surrenders bottom-five production to opposing SFs.
