A month ago, Rudy Gobert was a solid favorite in the NBA Defensive Player of the Year race. The Utah Jazz center has been dominant, and he remains a strong -210 favorite to win. But Ben Simmons (+170) of the Philadelphia 76ers has emerged as a real challenger in FanDuel Sportbook's latest NBA futures odds.

Gobert leads the Western Conference with 13.4 rebounds per game, and he's stifled opponents this season with 3.0 blocks per game, just behind league-leader and DPOY challenger Myles Turner (+500). Gobert's defensive presence is a huge part of the Jazz (31-11) having the league's best record thus far.

The versatile Simmons, meanwhile, averages 8.0 rebounds and is top 10 in steals, averaging 1.5 per game. He's helped lead the 76ers (31-13) to the second-best record in the NBA.

His dominating defensive ability is displayed night in and night out, as Simmons is most often tasked with guarding the opponents top scorer. That could be the point guard, power forward or any player in today's position-less NBA.

Here's a look at the rest of the odds to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.
