Throughout the month of June, it looked like nothing could slow down Washington Nationals left fielder Kyle Schwarber. The slugging outfielder went on to win NL Player of the Month after hitting 16 home runs across 18 games during June.
Despite being one of the hottest hitters on the planet right now, one thing can slow down any MLB player: injuries. That's exactly what happened with Schwarber, who left Friday night's contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers with an apparent injury.
Nationals manager Dave Martinez provided further updates on Schwarber following the game.
Kyle Schwarber Injury Update
According to Martinez, his 28-year-old outfielder suffered a potential injury to his right hamstring while running the bases. The Nationals will have their left fielder undergo an MRI on Saturday and await further updates.
This could be a potentially crushing blow in Washington, especially if Schwarber's injury has any sort of severity. Schwarber's hot streak was a big part of the Nationals turning things around in June with their 19-9 overall record. They now sit just 2.5 games back of first place in the NL East with a 40-40 overall record.
Currently, Washington owns +3000 odds to win the NL Pennant, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Schwaber is a crucial piece to the Nats' success down the stretch.
