The Washington Nationals were one of the hottest teams in the MLB this past month, going a sizzling 19-9 in June. Shortstop Trea Turner has been right in the middle of this hot streak, especially after his historic day on Wednesday.

Turner became just the fifth player in MLB history to hit for the cycle three different times throughout his career while celebrating his 28th birthday in the Nationals' 15-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Unfortunately for Washington, this big day from Turner came with a bit of mixed news.

Trea Turner Injury Update

While Turner slid into third base to help secure the triple portion of his cycle, the seven-year MLB veteran jammed his middle finger. After the game, manager Dave Martinez declared that his pure-hitting shortstop would be considered "day-to-day" with the injury.

The Nationals are hopeful that Martinez's initial diagnosis of the injury is the worst of it and they won't see their shortstop sidelined for any major length of time. On the year, Turner is slashing .318/.367/.513 with 14 home runs, 38 RBIs, 2 triples and an NL-leading 18 stolen bases.

He's been a big part of the Nationals turning things around in June while the club trails first place by just 2.0 games in the NL East. Washington owns the second-best odds to win the division (+550), according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
