This past Sunday was not kind to the Miami Marlins. The club lost both Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Garrett Cooper to left shoulder bone bruise and left elbow sprain injuries, respectively, in a 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Considering how injuries have already held Miami back all season long, losing two more players is far from ideal.

Fortunately, it's looking like the club has avoided the worst-case scenario for both Chisholm and Cooper. According to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola, Marlins manager Don Mattingly is optimistic about the situation following the duo's MRI results on Monday.

While he didn't get into any details, Mattingly told reporters in a Zoom call that he "felt pretty good" when it comes to the MRI results. He also expects to have Chisholm and Cooper back in the lineup sometime in 2021, according to De Nicola.

"It could have went differently. I thought it was as good as we could have asked for with both guys, so I really felt a sigh of relief for both of these guys that you're not going through those crazy rehabs and things like that."

After a disappointing 2020 MLB season, Chisholm really improved as a hitter in 2021. The 23-year-old 2B/SS has 11 home runs and 34 RBI through 263 at-bats this season while also slashing .251/.317/.347. Meanwhile, Cooper has been impressive in his own right in his fifth campaign. The 30-year-old veteran leads the Marlins with an .845 on-base plus slugging percentage and has 9 HR and 33 RBI to his name.

At +30000 odds (T-21st), the Marlins probably won't come anywhere near the 2021 World Series, let alone the playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Nevertheless, getting Chilsom and Cooper back on the field would at least give Miami fans something to cheer about in the back half of the season.
