James White was rumored to be interested in reuniting with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that White is expected to re-sign with the Patriots.
White emerged as one of the best pass-catching running backs in the league, culminating in a monstrous 2018 campaign. He finished with 87 catches, 1,176 yards from scrimmage, and 12 total touchdowns, making him an extremely valuable asset in PPR leagues.
That said, his production suffered drastically with Cam Newton under center last season. His 49 catches and 35 carries were his lowest marks since 2015, and he finished with just 496 scrimmage yards and 3 touchdowns. Overall, he averaged just 4.42 targets per game in games which Newton started at quarterback. Cam is expected to handle the quarterback duties in New England again next season, making it hard to get excited about a bounce-back season for White.
The Patriots have had a busy offseason so far, which has had a big impact on their Super Bowl odds. They’re currently listed at +3000 to win Super Bowl LVI on FanDuel Sportsbook.
