Jacob deGrom News: Mets Ace Won't Pitch in 2021 MLB All-Star Game

The 2021 MLB All-Star Game official rosters have been announced. In looking at the list, the least surprising name comes in the form of New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom.
The Mets' ace was named to his fourth All-Star after one of the best first halves baseball fans have ever seen from a starting pitcher. He's done so with a stifling 0.95 ERA and 0.541 WHIP through 14 starts. Not to mention, the 33-year-old ace is striking out batters at a clip of 14.4 per nine innings (an all-time record if that mark holds).
On Sunday, deGrom revealed that he likely won't be participating in this year's All-Star Game.

Jacob deGrom All-Star Game
"I'm supposed to throw Sunday. For me, I don't think it's smart to go pitch in the All-Star Game. I've been a little beat up this first half and obviously missed a few starts that I wish I wouldn't have missed, so I don't think it makes sense for me to throw in it."

Honestly, Mets fans will probably breathe a sigh of relief in hearing this news. While any team wants to celebrate the success of it's individual players at the All-Star break, New York has been one of the most injury-riddled teams in the league in 2021.
It seems like every game there's a fear of the next injury. deGrom has even missed a few starts already this season out of precaution for potential injuries.
Nonetheless, deGrom has been stellar when he's on the mound and a major reason for New York's success. The Mets sit in first place in the NL East with their 43-37 overall record. New York also owns the fourth-best odds (+900) to take home the World Series title, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
Mets fans would much rather see their team hoist a World Series title and deGrom take home the end-of-season hardware, the Cy Young and MVP awards, in which he's the favorite to win both.
