Wide receiver Chris Godwin has averaged at least 15.9 PPR fantasy points per game in each of the last two years as a top option in the dangerous Tampa Bay Buccaneers' pass attack. His fantasy outlook for the 2021 season comes with WR1 upside as he remains one of quarterback Tom Brady's favorite targets.

Chris Godwin Fantasy Outlook

Godwin dealt with a few injuries last season that forced him to miss four games. The fifth-year pro was still able to put together a solid campaign racking up 840 yards and 7 touchdowns on 65 receptions. He also posted a career-high 77.4% catch percentage.

More importantly, Godwin proved he is Brady's go-to WR in the passing game as he saw at least 6 targets in 10 of his 12 games played. That is a great sign for a wideout playing on an offense filled with dynamic talents including the likes of Mike Evans, Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski. On a per-game basis, Godwin's 7.0 targets per game were higher than Evans' 6.81 and just below Brown's 7.75.

Godwin can be seen a a fringe WR1 in fantasy football this season given he can get back to making big plays down the field. The Buccaneers WR posted a career-low 12.9 yards per catch last season, but averaged at least 14.3 yards per reception in each of the three seasons prior.

Blaming that decline on Brady being a check-down QB isn't fair, either. Brady's 9.6 average depth of target (aDOT) was the second-highest mark in the league, so there's no reason Godwin can't get back to being a downfield playmaker.

All things considered, every fantasy manager should want a share of an offense that ranked No. 2 in scoring (30.8 points per game) and No. 9 in yards per game (382.9) last season. Drafting Godwin in the early fourth round in one way to accomplish that goal without paying a premium price.

FantasyPros' average draft position data shows that Godwin is being taken No. 47 overall and No. 16 amongst WRs in PPR leagues. If he falls at all in drafts, fantasy managers would be smart to snatch him up. Godwin's situation makes him a perfect candidate to exceed expectations in 2021.

Godwin checks in at WR17 in The Duel's 2021 fantasy football rankings.
