Chicago Bears Pro Bowl pass-rusher Khalil Mack has dealt with a nagging foot injury for several weeks now, but the injury finally took a turn for the worse. NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported on Wednesday that Mack is expected to miss Chicago's Week 8 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

This will be Mack's first missed contest during the 2021 NFL season.

Khalil Mack Injury Update

Not only are the Bears likely holding their leading pass-rusher out in Week 8, but the team is also mulling over a potential IR placement. Mack would miss at least three weeks of action if placed on the IR.

It's a tough conundrum for Chicago. While the Bears sit at 3-4 on the season and aren't exactly eliminated from playoff contention, this team has been a mess offensively and cannot afford to lose another defender.

Robert Quinn, who ranks second on the team with 5.5 sacks (behind Mack's 6.0), Pro Bowl defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, and linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu are also all nursing various injuries.

Mack is sidelined for Week 8 and potentially longer, for now, and the Bears enter this matchup with the 49ers as 3.5-point home underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook.
