Austin Ekeler went down with what looked to be a serious injury in the Los Angeles Chargers' Week 4 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had to be carted off the field, and this could be a devastating blow for his fantasy football managers.
If he's looking at an extended absence, Joshua Kelley would get a significant boost in fantasy value.
Austin Ekeler Injury Update
Ekeler is currently listed as questionable to return with a hamstring injury. There's no concrete word on his status beyond that, but this will be an important situation to monitor.
Joshua Kelley Fantasy Outlook
Kelley has been a surprisingly big part of the Chargers' offense thus far. He's turned 15.6 opportunities (14.3 carries plus 1.3 targets) into 75.0 yards from scrimmage per game. Kelley has added 1 touchdown.
If Ekeler is out for any period of time, Kelley would instantly become a must-add player for Week 5. He's currently rostered in just 54% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues, though that would increase significantly if Ekeler misses time.
The Chargers draw a tough matchup in Week 5, playing the New Orleans Saints, but things lighten up quickly as they face the New York Jets in Week 6.
This will be a situation to monitor as it develops.
