Astros Get Great News With Joe Smith Injury Update

Everything seems to be going the Houston Astros way as of late. This team currently owns the third-best record in baseball at 53-33 and is poised for another World Series run. Houston has gone 24-9 since the beginning and June, all while in the midst of a few injury troubles to some of its bigger names.
Thankfully for Astros fans, one of those names is coming back in full health. The Astros announced that right-handed reliever Joe Smith was activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday.
The Astros have activated RHP Joe Smith off the 10-day IL. He takes the roster spot of IF Taylor Jones, who was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land after last night’s game.

Houston Astros Injury News
While Smith has certainly struggled to kick off the 2021 campaign, the Astros are hoping it was a combination of rust and a result of his bout with elbow soreness. The 37-year-old reliever did not pitch in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, but owned a 1.80 ERA in his last full campaign from 2019.
On the year, Smith is pitching to a tough 6.23 ERA and 1.788 WHIP. While he may be up there in age, that's not the caliber of pitcher the righty truly is. In 14 MLB seasons, Smith pitches to a career 3.06 ERA and 1.180 WHIP.
Right now, the Astros also own the second-best odds (+600) to win the World Series, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Getting their bullpen back to full strength, and seeing Smith back to his usual ways will go a long way for a deep run in October.
