The end of the 2021 MLB season is approaching fast with teams setting their sights on final postseason pushes down the stretch. Among the many exciting things that come with the end of an MLB season is the award race.
FanDuel Sportsbook revealed its opening odds for the American League Rookie of the Year with less than two months to go. The opening AL Rookie of the Year odds show Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers as the favorite with +230 odds to win the award. On his heels is Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena at +280 odds.
Garcia leads all AL rookies with 23 home runs and 63 RBIs through the first 96 games of his rookie campaign. This is technically his third season making an appearance in the MLB, but it's his first as a legitimate rookie. Garcia, a slugging outfielder, earned his first All-Star appearance while slashing .254/.296/.489 on the year.
Arozarena is remembered by many for his enigmatic 2020 playoffs appearance in which he broke the record for most home runs in a single postseason run. He's followed that up with an electric rookie campaign while slashing .266/.343/.449 with 16 home runs and 52 RBIs. He's also recorded an AL rookie-leading 37 walks.
There's plenty of competitive players still vying for the Rookie of the Year honors within striking distance of the betting lead. This includes Houston Astros pitcher Luis Garcia (+350), Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo (+450) and Baltimore Orioles infielder Ryan Mountcastle (+1500).
