49ers Reveal Honorary Captain for NFC Championship

The San Francisco 49ers are laying all their cards out on the table ahead of a matchup with the No. 1 seeded Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game. Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice will join the team as an honorary captain and act as a motivator for head coach Kyle Shanahan's squad.

San Francisco 49ers NFC Championship
Rice is a San Francisco legend and one of the best wide receivers to ever play in the NFL. The 10-time All-Pro led the league in receiving yards six different times and won three Super Bowl titles with the 49ers ('89, '90 & '95). Rice also checks in first on the all-time playoff receiving yards list (2,245).
It's worth pointing out that Rice played against the Eagles seven times in his career and posted 524 yards to go along with 5 touchdowns on 33 receptions. San Francisco posted a 5-2 record in those games as well. It makes sense for the 49ers to bring in as many good luck charms as they can find.
This is a 49ers team that is about as motivated as can be, though. San Francisco enters Sunday on a ridiculous 12-game winning streak and is looking to earn its second Super Bowl appearance in the last four years. Its roster is simply stacked with talented playmakers on both sides of the football.
Kickoff between the 49ers and Eagles is set for 3 p.m. ET and will air on FOX. San Francisco is slated as a 2.5-point underdog with +132 moneyline odds at Lincoln Financial Field, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds. The 49ers also have odds set at +340 to win Super Bowl 57.
