The San Francisco 49ers bounced back in Week 8 with a win over the Chicago Bears as they look to stay alive in the NFC playoff race. The team could receive a boost on offense with the return of tight end George Kittle seemingly on the horizon. The Pro Bowler is expected to practice on Wednesday.
George Kittle Injury Update
This would be the first time Kittle takes part in practice since he was placed on the injured reserve back in early October. He has missed each of the last three games due to a calf injury, but head coach Kyle Shanahan is not ruling Kittle out for a Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
This is great news for the 49ers given the effort Kittle brings to the field every Sunday. Despite his lengthy absence, the 28-year-old still ranks second on the team in targets (28) and receiving yards (227). He is a go-to option for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and averages 7.0 targets per game this season.
All things considered, at least one reinforcement is on the way for a 49ers team that has been leaning on the run as of late. San Francisco owns the sixth-highest rushing play percentage in the NFL at 45.5%, but improving the passing attack is a must for a team stuck in a crowded NFC West division.
Keep an eye on Kittle's status throughout the week. For now, the 49ers head into Week 9 slated as 2.5-point home underdogs against the Cardinals, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
