The Washington Football Team was hit hard by COVID-19 last week, dealing with 18 roster players who tested positive for the virus. One of those key players was starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who was forced to miss Tuesday's rescheduled game.

Fortunately, Washington received some great news regarding its No. 1 QB on Thursday. WFT insider Nicki Jhabvala reported that Heinicke has cleared COVID-19 protocol ahead of his team's Week 16 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Taylor Heinicke Update

Considering how Garrett Gilbert was signed off of New England's practice squad for the Week 15 start, there's no doubt that Washington is more than thrilled to have their starting gunslinger back.

Aside from last week, Heinicke has started in each of Washington's games since Ryan Fitzpatrick was injured in Week 1. The 28-year-old has completed 66.5% of his passes so far, recording 2,931 passing yards and 19 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.

Even with Heinicke back under center, Washington faces a tough test in the form of the Cowboys this week. Dallas won the first meeting of the season between the NFC East rivals, defeating WFT, 27-20, back in Week 14. A win this week is necessary to keep Washington's playoff hopes alive.

Keeping that in mind, it's looking like the deck is stacked against Washington. The Football Team is the 10-point road underdog against Dallas this week, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
